Everybody knows that taking in vitamins are important to every organ in our body. The food that we eat are the sources, but sometimes they are not enough, so we need to supplement them with quality vitamins.
Having said that, taking in iron vitamin supplement is one of the basic vitamins for our bodies, especially more so in women. That’s why, my wife has been taking in iron tablets before and after delivery. Since we need iron supplements, do you know what causes an inability to absorb iron supplements.
This article will share more on this. Read on.
Some symptoms of having low on iron and the need to use an iron vitamin supplement are as follows.
#1 Dizzy spells.
#2 Head rushes and “white dots” in your vision when you stand up quickly.
#3 You feel weak and faint.
#4 Headaches more then usual.
The above are only some of the warning signs and you should always see your doctor if you are having these symptoms.
Iron is an essential component of haemoglobin - the oxygen carrying pigment in the blood. Iron-deficient people tire easily because their bodies remain starved for oxygen. Without enough iron, the body’s fuel cannot be properly synthesized.
Iron deficiency is the most common cause of low red blood cell count or anaemia, worldwide.
Women are more prone to iron deficiency. In general, it affects about 10 percent of pre-menopausal women, 6 percent of post-menopausal women, and less than 2 percent of men.
Iron deficiency may occur in many pregnant women because their iron stores need to serve their own increased blood volume as well as be a source of haemoglobin for the growing foetus.
Individuals can increase the body’s iron absorption from non-heme foods by:
#1 A good source of vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, oranges, olives and strawberries, if eaten with a non-heme food.
#2 A non-heme iron source if cooked in an iron pot.
A simple iron vitamin supplement can counter this effect and keep your iron levels up.
That’s all folks, I hope this sharing will give you some insight on what causes iron deficiency and the an inability to absorb iron supplement.
Until my next post, take care and remember do not overdose your vitamins consumption.
